JK Rowling supports Irish student in an unfortunate situation

JK Rowling has appealed to the Irish public to help a Dublin man locate his laptop after he left it in a taxi.

The NUI Maynooth student pleaded with friends via Facebook post to help him get in contact with the taxi driver in question.

The post gained a lot of public attention and eventually was spotted by the Harry Potter author.

Rowling re-tweeted the post the following day and urged the Irish public to help the student by stating that it would be “one of her worst nightmares”.

The Independent reported that the student, Jamal Sul, is currently doing a PhD in therapies for multiple sclerosis and the notes and files for said PhD were also left in the taxi.

Jamal had been out celebrating his thesis corrections with friends in Dublin city.

In his Facebook post, Jamal stated, “I had an unfortunate event on Friday where I went out and celebrated my thesis corrections.

I met up with two friends and got a taxi outside Iskanders between 3am-3.30am on the 6th May, which was Friday night into Saturday morning. I got into the taxi and headed towards Cherry Orchard but I fell asleep in the back, completely disorientated, and I hopped out and left my bag”.

Speaking to Independent.ie about the traction gained by his public appeal , Jamal commented, “So obviously having a famous writer share my post was mental and it made me think how supportive people can be in an instant using social media.

“It’s a f**king nightmare but I’m really surprised by the whole thing and overwhelmed at the level of support. Hopefully something comes of it.”
