Jennifer Zamparelli hits out at critics: ‘People like to pigeonhole you’

The RTE star originally appeared on The Apprentice

Jennifer Zamparelli has hit out at critics who have pigeonholed her in the past.

The actress, known for creating and starring in the IFTA Award winning comedy series Bridget and Eamon, first appeared on the small screen in 2008 on BBC’s The Apprentice.

However, the brunette beauty has admitted that people questioned her move into comedy, as she soon became known as the ultimate funny woman on RTÉ’s Republic of Telly.

“People like to put you in this pigeonhole,” she said.

The mother-of-one also revealed that her business background is what bought her house, and that she “fell into sales” after doing a secretarial course.

“It was like ‘She does a business show so she can’t do comedy.’ I had a business for five years – that’s how I was able to buy my house and not because of acting,” she told the Irish Mirror.

“I can’t tell you how bad my Leaving Cert was. I wasn’t very good at school, was out of there at 17, did a secretarial course and then fell into sales.

“I was good at that, but you get all sold out after a while.”

High hopes: The comedian would like to bring Bridget and Eamon to the stage | RTE

Jennifer also opened up about the success of Bridget & Eamon, after taking home their first IFTA award earlier this month – and admitted that she wouldn’t rule out bringing their characters to the stage.

“Hopefully, we can get another TV series and if there’s room then to think about a stage show we will.

“But how would it work and would we have to hire the Billie Barrys to be six to eight kids? And would it be a play or stand-up or a musical or whatever?” she added.

Bridget and Eamon is now on UK TV channel Gold every Saturday from 11pm.
