Jameela Jamil wants to see Irish women in roles of power

Activist and actress Jameela Jamil has revealed that she thinks there is a lack of Irish women at the top when it comes to business.

“I don’t see enough Irish female executives and they are no less intelligent than anyone else,” Jameela told the Herald.

“In fact all the Irish people I know are some of the smartest, funniest people, so therefore I can’t really understand this.”

“But it’s not just an Irish problem, it’s a UK and a worldwide problem. We need more women at the top.”

The star is currently hiring an all-female team for her new company called I Weigh.

The actress said that traditionally religious countries, such as Ireland and Pakistan, had “repressed women” due to the influence of the church.

The “overarching religious presence” had “filtered out into the culture” leading to a “history of women being held back”, she told the paper.

“And it’s only to the detriment of the economy.”

Jameela is set to give the keynote speech at The True Measure Of Self-Worth at the Simmons Leadership Conference in Dublin this week.
