Jameela Jamil hits out at Eve Hewson for defending Emile Hirsh – who ‘strangled’ her friend back in 2015

Bonos daughter classed the attack as a "mistake"

Jameela Jamil has slammed Bono’s daughter Eve Hewson for defending Emile Hirsh – who attacked her friend back in 2015.

Yesterday, The Good Place actress took to social media to criticise Quentin Tarantino for casting Emile in his new movie ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’, as the actor reportedly “strangled” her friend during the Sundance Film Festival in 2015, leaving her with PTSD.

Jameela tweeted, “Cool. Emile Hirsch strangled my tiny female best friend until she blacked out at a party in front of dozens of witnesses at Sundance Film Festival (and was convicted) but Tarantino just cast him in a movie. INTENSE case of rich white male [privilege] eh? Cool. Cool. Cool.”

Sharing the tweet on Instagram, Jameela added, “Just got cast alongside Brad Pitt and Dakota Fanning. My friend had Three years of PTSD which he never paid for and never apologized to her directly for. Not today Satan, not today.”

The 32-year-old’s statement garnered a mixed reaction, as many tried to justify Emile’s actions as a mistake.

One person who tried to defend Emile was U2 frontman Bono’s daughter Eve, who commented, “He apologized. People make mistakes and if they own up to them, we should always choose forgiveness.”

“Shaming someone for their past, gender or race aside, doesn’t help anyone. You should apologize for this post,” she added.

Jameela didn’t take kindly to Eve’s comments, and replied, “A mistake? A MISTAKE? Why is abusing women always classed as a ‘mistake’. If people hadn’t pulled him off her, he could have killed her.”

She continued, “We didn’t call what Roseanne said a mistake. We took her off the air. When Nate Parker was cleared of rape and only accused of intimidation, they erased his career and binned his movie.

“May someone never make the same ‘mistake’ around your windpipe, or that of your loved ones. And if they do, may they be punished appropriately and may they help you un any way to heal and recover. Not be celebrated and treated like a kind in a Hollywood film,” she added.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by E! News, Emile allegedly attacked Hollywood executive Daniele Bernfeld in 2015.

Before the attack, the actor reportedly called her a “rich kid” and asked her why she looked “so tough” before she pushed him away.

The complaint read, “Shortly thereafter Hirsch came up from behind Bernfeld and wrapped his arm around her to put her in a chokehold. Hirsch pulled Bernfeld across the table and onto the floor, where he landed on top of her.”

“While Hirsch was on top of Bernfeld he wrapped his hands around her neck. Bernfeld said she felt as though the front and back of her throat were touching and she remembers things going dark. Bernfeld reported that she may have momentarily blacked out.”

Emile received a $4,750 fine, and spent 15 days in jail and completed 50 hours of community service.
