Muireann O’Connell responds to leaving Today FM: ‘It’s embarrassing’

It was today announced that Mairead Ronan would be joining the Today FM line up.

Today FM confirmed that Muireann O’Connell and Louise Duffy are to move on from the station.

On Twitter, Muireann addressed the situation, saying:

“Hello lovely people! I have been fired from @TodayFM It’s all good.”

“Like, it’s embarrassing and I’m a bit sad but I love almost everyone in that station and wish them all the best in the future.”

She used her announcement to wish Mairead Ronan luck in her new role, saying: “@cocomairead will be great!”

A number of fellow broadcasters have offered their support to Muireann.

“Sorry to hear Muireann. You’re a great broadcaster, as is Mairead. Ruthless game. Chin up,” tweeted Eoghan Mc Dermott.

“I’m hugely sorry to hear this Muireann. It’s happened to all of us at one stage or another and you’ll find something bigger and *better*. End of the week is my guess,” wrote Rick O’Shea.

 

Speaking about her time at Today FM, Louise said: “I have been so lucky to have had such incredible experiences with this station, but the time has come for me to move on.””

“I bid a very fond farewell and a big thank you to my colleagues and listeners at Today FM and look forward to the next chapter”

Today FM CEO Keith McCormack commented:

“I would like to thank both Muireann and Louise for their contribution to the station and wish them well in their future endeavours.”
