Irish fans from Euro 2016 are to be honoured with a medal from the Mayor of Paris for their “exemplary sportsmanship”.
Mayor Anne Hidalgo contacted President Michael D Higgins to pay tribute to our Green Army for their phenomenal behaviour throughout the tournament.
While violence occurred amongst other country’s supporters, namely between Russian and English fans, Irish fans have received nothing but praise as videos have gone viral of the supporters cleaning up after themselves on French streets – and just generally being great craic.
Once again you have proved yourselves as the best fans in the world. Thank you for your incredible support! #COYBIG pic.twitter.com/3vl50BrVeC
