Top Irish celebrities have taken to social media to urge people to “speak up” amid the ongoing harrowing Gaza aid crisis.

Actress Nicola Coughlan, who has been very vocal about her support of Palestine, spoke out on social media about the ongoing crisis.

Taking to Instagram, she wrote: “I think it deeply important that people speak up in this moment, no child, no matter where they are from, their religion, anything should be starved to death by a a government, It’s the most inhuman thing I’ve ever witnessed.”

In another story, she wrote: “If the headline read: 14,000 British Babies will starve to death without aid in the next 48 hours, 14,000 American Babies will starve to death without aid in the next 48 hours, 14,000 Irish Babies will starve to death without aid in the next 48 hours, Would you stay completely silent? if the answer is no ask yourself why and speak up now.”

Sharing a post that read: “UNICEF’s supplies in the Gaza Strip to treat child malnutrition have almost run out, Significantly more aid must be allowed in immediately,” Irish presenter Laura Whitmore wrote: “According to the UN without aid, 14000 babies in Gaza could die in the next 24 hours. In a lengthy instagram post, Irish television presenter, Síle Seoige wrote: “Saying…murdering babies is bad…on social media is the very least we can do. We are 19 months into a genocide.”

“Drop helplessness,  and please do something. I say this to my myself as much as anyone else. There are actions happening every day around the country, from protests to vigils to signing petitions, donating and contacting government members, and demanding we do something!!”

“Enough talk Micheál and Simon. Because that’s all it is. Empty promises.
Enact the Occupied Territories Bill NOW. US military out of Shannon. Drop the IHRA definition. Sanction Israhell. It’s not enough to simply say it is heartbreaking. It is heartbreaking and horrific and hell on earth, but action is also needed.”

“Find solidarity groups to connect with and find your place. We can all do something. You will be welcomed, and you are needed.”

“The research shows that it takes only 3.5% of a population who are active in consistent non-violent resistance to bring about real change. 3.5% Surely we can do that? Will you be part of that 3.5% and stand on the right side of history?
Will you do something today and make your voice heard? Please do. Saoirse don Phalaistín ✊🏻 🇵🇸,” she concluded.

On Tuesday, after an 11-week siege, Israel only permitted five UN trucks delivering humanitarian supplies, including baby food, into the Gaza Strip.

Global experts are warning of an impending famine, and while the UN humanitarian chief praised the action, he emphasised that it was only “a drop in the ocean of what is urgently needed” by the 2.1 million Palestinians living in the war-torn region.

Since early March, at least 57 children are reported to have died from malnutrition.

According to an Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) assessment supported by the UN, over 93% of Gaza’s children, or over 930,000, are at risk of starvation.

International outrage over the humanitarian crisis has led to the European Union announcing that it will reassess its trade cooperation agreement with Israel due to the siege.

For a long time, Israeli officials have maintained that humanitarian material provided by the UN was being misdirected to Hamas fighters in Gaza.

Plans to establish a new aid delivery system that is guarded by Israeli armed soldiers and operated by private corporations were confirmed by the United States last week. The United Nations opposed the move.
