Imelda May has shared a touching tribute to her “lovely ex-husband” Darrel Higham, to celebrate his birthday.
The Irish singer separated from the British musician in 2015, but the former couple have remained on good terms, and continue to co-parent their daughter Violet.
Taking to Instagram on Darrel’s 51st birthday, Imelda shared a black-and-white snap of her ex, alongside the caption: “Happy Birthday to my lovely ex husband and great friend Darrel.”
“The coolest rocker in town! Hope you have the best day bopping at the house of bop. Love Imelda X @darrelhighammusic.”

Underneath her post, Darrel commented: “It’s been awhile since I bopped! Thank you, my favourite ex-wife. Xx.”
Fans and friends also praised the former couple for maintaining a “good relationship” in the comment section.
TV presenter Angela Scanlon wrote: “Conscious uncoupling at its greatest xx.”

The former couple tied the knot in 2002, and welcomed their first child, a daughter named Violet, in 2012.
Imelda wished her ex-husband a happy birthday just hours after she posted a birthday tribute to her new boyfriend Niall McNamee.
On her new beau’s 27th birthday, Imelda wrote on Instagram: “Happy Birthday to my kindhearted, hilarious, talented, witty, weird, charismatic, thoughtful, handsome as hell, best friend and boyfriend. Love you!”
