'I'll give Harry Irish lessons': Micheal O'Muircheartaigh wants to teach Harry Styles some Gaeilge

Broadcaster Micheal O Muircheartaigh has said he would love to give Harry Styles Irish lessons after he found out the singer tried to pronounce his name.

Harry’s fellow One Directioner Niall Horan has frequently challenged the English singer to pronounce the veteran’s name and Harry regularly rolls it off the tongue when he visits Ireland.

Xpose star Glenda Gilson admitted the 21-year-old regularly tries to say it for her whenever she runs into him.

“Anytime Harry meets me he tells me he can speak Irish and says, [mocks Harry], ‘Mic-heal O Muirch-ear-taigh talks foot-ball for fun,” she said.

“Obviously Niall said Micheal’s name one day and now Harry thinks he can speak Irish.”

“He does it in his best Irish accent and he’ isn’t bad!” she told The Star.

The retired 84-year-old Kerry native was amused when he heard the story.

“Honest to God? Well that’s very good. Well my name is Irish so he is speaking Irish in a sense,” he said.

When asked if he’d be up for teaching the pop star our native language, Micheal joked he’d be up for it.

“Maybe, I may do. If it was that simple I could give him another few Irish names to learn or a different vocabulary of Irish altogether.”
