IFTA Lifetime Achievement winner Michael Gambon misses ceremony due to illness

The Irish Film and Television Academy have announced that Michael Gambon was taken into hospital earlier this week, which caused him to miss the ceremony tonight.

The actor, famed for playing Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter films, has now been discharged, but, he was advised that he was not well enough to travel to Dublin to receive his Lifetime Achievement Award at the IFTA Award Ceremony this evening.

Michael had been determined to come to Dublin to receive his IFTA Lifetime Achievement Award, and naturally, he was devastated not to be able to travel to be part of the Awards Ceremony.

The Irish Film & Television Academy has confirmed to Michael that he will receive his Lifetime Achievement Award at a special event to be held in his honour later this year.
