This ICONIC Irish movie is being made in to a play

The Gate Theatre will be bringing The Snapper to it’s stage this year.

The 1993 classic Irish movie is already cast and rehearsals will get underway shortly.

Corrie star turned celebrity chef Simon Delaney takes to the stage as Jimmy Snr.

Jimmy Snr is the re-titled character Dessie Curley, who was Sharon’s Dad, played by Colm Meaney in the movie.

Speaking exclusively to Goss.ie Simon said “It’s going to be a very special summer.”

“I’m beyond excited to make my debut at The Gate Theatre in the world premiere of Rody Doyle’s The Snapper.”

“To be playing one of the most inconic and most loved roles in Irish cinema history is a dream come true.”

“Colm Meaney’s shoes are big to fill but I’ll give it my best shot! Snip, snip!”

Simon O’Gorman has been cast as George Burgess, the notorious neighbour who preys on an inebriated Sharon.

Hilda Fay will play Veronica and Kate Gilmore takes to the stage as Jackie.

The actress playing Sharon has yet to be announced but a source told Goss.ie that three actresses have been reading for the part.

Originally written by Roddy Doyle, the play is set to be directed by Róisín NicBrinn, a director Simon Delaney said he has “admired for years”.
