Greg O’Shea hopes to appear on another reality show after the Olympics

Greg O’Shea has revealed he hopes to appear on another reality show, after representing Ireland at the Olympics Games this summer.

The Limerick native, who shot to fame when he won Love Island in 2019, is part of Ireland’s Rugby Sevens team – which qualified for the Tokyo Olympics last month.

Before he jetted to Tokyo this week, the 26-year-old admitted he’d like to “get back on TV” after completing his goal of making it to the Olympics.

Speaking to the Irish Daily Mail, Greg said: “It’s a dream come true. With me personally it’s all I have attempted to do since the Sevens became an Olympic sport back in 2016.”

“Since then I have just been saying, ‘I have to go to the Olympics’. It is the pinnacle of sport.”

“Every sport in the world and every person in the world knows what the Olympics is, so to play with my mates and get the recognition of being Olympians is unbelievable.”

After winning Love Island with Amber Gill back in 2019, Greg snubbed the celebrity lifestyle and jumped straight back into rugby training, and completed his law exams.

Explaining his decision, the 26-year-old said: “Love Island is great but you’ve got to realise what it is — it’s a reality TV show so you can’t just base your whole life around it.”

“I don’t know if that’s an Irish thing in that I have always been told, ‘No, you have to get your qualifications, you have to get your degree, you have to work hard,’ so that has always just been my decision and it’s what feels right.”

“So it wasn’t really taken very well when I decided not to follow the celebrity route after Love Island. But I think my decision has paid off because I’m going to the Olympics.”

“Who knows what I will do after? I might see if that world is still available or there’s some work for me to do. But the Olympics is still my first choice.”

As for what he’d like to do next, Greg said he’d love to jump back into presenting – following his stints on RTÉ 2fm and Virgin Media.

“I absolutely loved doing TV and radio,” he said. “I never in a million years thought I’d enjoy presenting so I will definitely try my hand at that again if there’s anyone looking for a young fella to do some presenting roles.”

Greg then shared his hopes to appear on another reality show after the Olympics.

“I think I would like to get back on TV as well,” he confessed. “Maybe do a show like I’m a Celebrity… or Strictly or something like that.”
