Green Nose Day! Irish comedians sign up for Comic Relief telethon in Dublin

Ireland’s top comedians are coming together for a St Patricks Day telethon, to raise much needed money for charity.

According to the Irish Sun, Dublin’s 3Arena will host Green Nose Day, and RTÉ are in negotiations to broadcast the live gala on March 17.

Major comedians Dara O Briain and Patrick Kielty, known for their work with British charity Comic Relief, which was founded in 1985 by comedy scriptwriter Richard Curtis and comedian Lenny Henry in response to famine in Ethiopia, are among the rumoured headline acts.

The full line-up will be revealed in the coming days, but insiders have claimed that the line-up will be an “A-list of Irish comedy”.

According to reports, money raised by Green Nose Day will be split between humanitarian relief efforts in countries like Syria, and charities at home, including organisations helping the homeless.

Top Irish comedian Deirdre O’Kane has been working on bringing the event to Ireland for some time now, and said, “I just want to thank so many of my fellow comics for agreeing to it. It’s a reaction to Aleppo and our own homeless crisis.”
