Golfer Shane Lowry has admitted his family supported his decision to elope with his fiancée Wendy Honner to New York.
Getting engaged in 2014 in Dubai, the 29-year-old sports star shunned the “the big white wedding” last month to get wed in secret.
“The guest list was spiralling and I get stressed very easily. So we decided the big white wedding at home was not what we wanted,” he said.

“We cancelled plans a few months ago and told both our families and as long as they were pretty happy, we were happy to go ahead.”
Speaking on 2fm, the Offaly native revealed their New York-based Irish photographer also acted as their witness for the ceremony.
“A guy called Jimmy Higgins, he was our photographer,” he added.
“Then we went around the city taking photos in the afternoon.”
