Gay Byrne’s wife Kathleen Watkins has revealed that the much-loved broadcaster has received “very good” results from chemotherapy.
The veteran broadcaster was diagnosed with prostate cancer back in 2016.
Speaking to the Irish Independent, Kathleen said, “He is finished the chemo that they added in, so he is recovering from that.”
“The results were very good,” she added.
Gay revealed his cancer diagnosis to the public on his Lyric FM radio show last year, and was overwhelmed by the support and well wishes he received.
“There were Mass cards, prayers and letters. This massive surge of sympathy which was wonderful,” he previously told the Irish Sun.
“But it has dwindled off now, probably a good thing, because I simply hadn’t the strength to answer all of the lovely letters,” he added.
