Former Mrs Brown’s Boys star Rory Cowan had ‘absolutely nothing to do’ with tax avoidance schemes

The actor quit the show during the summer

Rory Cowan has revealed that he had "absolutely nothing to do" with any tax avoidance schemes during his time on Mrs Brown's Boys.

Yesterday, the Paradise Papers reportedly revealed that three of the show's stars, including Paddy Houlihan, Martin Delaney, and Fiona O'Carroll, used a complicated web of offshore accounts to avoid paying tax on their earnings.

Although Rory had nothing to do with the scheme, he admitted that he was approached about using the services of accountant Roy Lyness, who is allegedly the accountant behind a similar tax avoidance scheme used by British comedian Jimmy Carr.

The Irish Independent has reported that like the rest of the cast, Rory was approached about three or four years ago about signing up for Roy Lyness' services, but he said that he had "no interest".

Rory said that something didn't seem right when he was told that the same accountancy firm had also been used by Jimmy Carr - who was forced to apologise back in 2012 for being involved in a K2 tax avoidance scheme.

"Once I heard that, I thought, 'I want nothing to do with him'," Rory said.

Back in July, the actor, who played Agnes Brown’s son Rory for 26 years, revealed that he had quit the show, but insisted that there was no falling out.
