Former Dragon’s Den panellist, Seán Gallagher, has announced that he is seeking nomination to run for president.

The Irish entrepreneur previously ran for presidency in 2011, but lost the bid to President Michael D. Higgins.

The businessman is now seeking nomination for the role and released a statement saying that Ireland has been “confronted with many challenges.”

Seán stated that he wants the “opportunity to redefine the role of president in the context of a changing society, while cherishing all that is unique about Ireland.”

The entrepreneur also released a video outlining the plans for his upcoming campaign and stated: “I am heartened by the fact that motions to nominate me as a candidate have been formally submitted in ten separate local authorities.”

The businessman will be going up against current president, Michael D. Higgins, as well as former Dragon’s Den co-star Gavin Duffy, activist and artist Kevin Sharkey, Senator Joan Freeman, and investigative journalist Gemma O’Doherty.
