Irish jockey John Thomas McNamara has passed away aged 41.
The father-of-three was paralysed from the neck down following a serious fall in 2013 at Cheltenham.
The sports star suffered complications on Friday night before being transferred to University Hospital Limerick and then discharged to spend his last few days with his family.
The Limerick native had over 600 victories to his name and was a four time Cheltenham Festival winner.
“I’ve just spoken to his wife Caroline and I can confirm JT passed away peacefully during the night,” the senior medical officer for the Irish Turf Club said to RTE Sport.
“A press release on behalf of the Turf Club will be released shortly.”
Fans took to Twitter to remember the 41-year-old and offer their respects to him and his family.
