Fair City star Tony Tormey reveals fans hit him ‘with a bunch of celery’ over storyline

Tony Tormey has revealed that fans hit him “with a bunch of celery sticks” because of Fair City’s latest storyline.

The actor, who plays Paul Brennan in the soap, was out shopping with his mother when it happened.

“I got hit with a bunch of celery while I brought my mother out shopping.

“It was by these three women who are in their 80s Id say,” he told the Irish Daily Star.

“Then we got back to the intro the car and I said to mam, ‘what did you think of that?’ And mam said ‘sure that was your fault. The way you’re carrying on television. It’s disgraceful.'”

The news comes after Fair City’s explosive episode on Wednesday night.

Niamh (played by Clelia Murphy) knocked Paul unconscious, before Paul returns to block her escape from the garage – which results in a raging fire, which may cost Orla (Sorcha Furlong) her life as she’s left trapped inside.
