This month, Ireland AM will celebrate 20 years on the air.

Long-standing presenter Alan Hughes, who has presented the show since it began in 1999, told Goss.ie that the show will be marking the significant birthday.

When it comes to celebrating the milestone, Alan revealed that the show has some tricks up it’s sleeve – with Alan hoping to see some collaborations from Ireland AM viewers who have watched the show since the start.

Speaking to Goss.ie, he said: “We are looking at doing stuff.”

“What I would love to do is get viewers who were there at the start and for them to come in and tell us their stories of watching Ireland AM over the 20 years.”

“I get people all the time through difficult times that I have had with my sister and brother dying and different things, and people tell me that they get great comfort watching us on the show so it’s great that they are sending us messages as well.”

The long-standing presenter believes that Ireland AM’s genuine nature is what keeps viewer’s passionate about the show.

“When you’re on for three and a half hours every morning when you’re going to work or getting up for school, it is different than watching something once a week.”

“We open up and we let people into our lives and were honest and I think that’s what people love.”
