EXCLUSIVE! X Factor’s Brendan Murray hopes that he can ‘relate’ to mentor Louis Tomlinson

X Factor‘s Brendan Murray hopes that he can “relate” to mentor, Louis Tomlinson.

The 21-year-old was given the golden buzzer by Louis during Sunday night’s Six Chair Challenge and it was a shocking moment for the singer.

Brendan spoke exclusively to Goss.ie as he said: “I didn’t know what it to expect!”

“From my first audition, obviously they gave me a song to learn so I only had a few hours to learn that as well. So I didn’t know what way it was going and I was going around that day, beforehand and everyone was saying ‘I’m getting that golden seat, that golden seat is mine!’ a lot of fight talk going on,” he revealed.

“I was so happy to get a seat, just to get a seat I’d be happy. The whole experience was just mad when he did press it,” the Galway native continued.

Although there was a lot of competitive chat going on between everyone in the Boys group, Brendan said that he has bonded with the other lads.

“Yes we have bonded, that’s one thing I can take from this whole process, I’ve gained a lot of friends,” he said.

“So when you step out there, you know all your enemies. You’re fighting for a seat, you’re fighting for your career, you’re life, you know,” the singer said.

“So it’s not nice taking it away from someone, everyone’s there for the same reasons. Everyone’s doing their best,” he continued.

Brendan is eager to get to the next stage of the show and told us that he hopes that he can relate to Louis.

“I haven’t spoken to him too much because I’m still preparing, I’m still looking at song choices and all this. So I’m hoping beforehand he can give me a bit of advice,” he revealed.

“He’s been through the whole process, he knows what works and what doesn’t work. I hope the two of us can relate to each other, I’m just hoping we have similar tastes in music. He seems like a lovely guy and I just hope I get to know him better,” Brendan continued.

Although the singer has been in the music industry for quite a while and has a lot of experience performing on front of crowds, he admitted that singing on The X Factor was completely nerve wrecking.

“It was nerve wrecking, because as I’ve said before there is so much unique talent. Everyone wants to be different and everyone has their own individual personality,” he revealed.

“I was very nervous getting up and I just wanted to give a great performance and do they best I could. I just wanted to be myself,” Brendan told us.

The singer has experienced fame over the past few years as he was part of the boyband, Hometown, for two years before he was put forward as Ireland’s entrant for the Eurovision in 2017.

Brendan does feel that his fame from X Factor has been different to his previous experiences though and he told us: “Yes, very different this time round, just because I’ve watched the X Factor since I’ve been about ten.”

“It’s been a big part of my life growing up, me and my mam used to watch it religiously on a Saturday night. I can probably remember all of the contestants from growing up, that’s how big of a fan I was,” he continued.

“I know I’ve had an experience in the past with other things, I’m very thankful that I’ve had them as well. This is just a completely new bubble, this whole thing has just been great.”

The singer admitted that it was a very strange experience watching the show on Sunday night as he was surrounded by friends for the special night.

“I watched it with a few friends, so a few friends came over. So it was strange watching it back over, the whole thing was just amazing!” he told us.

“When my friends were over they kept talking in the middle of it. I had to put my phone on airplane mode, I was just watching it like. It’s just crazy to see it back.”

As for his preparations for the judges houses, Brendan said that the X Factor team have been incredible to work with.

“The X Factor music team have been amazing throughout this whole process. They’re there for the contestants and they’re there to show everyone’s best ability,” he said.

“I’ll see what works and they might be like ‘We’ll think this will work better’. I’ll take their advice and leave it to the professionals,” Brendan revealed.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed his experience on the show so far and hopes to gain the support of the entire country.

“It’s been great, friends and family have been great support. Hopefully the country can get behind me,” he concluded.
