EXCLUSIVE! Storm Keating opens up on namegate: 'It got blown out of proportion'

Storm Keating has revealed she happy to have cleared the air between her and Jennifer Zamparelli – insisting the situation got blown out of “proportion” after the broadcaster revealed her real name wasn’t Storm.

The Aussie took to social media after the shock announcement earlier this week to post a copy of her birth certificate that proved her first name is Sharyn, but admitted she has gone by her middle name Storm all her life.

Speaking to Goss.ie, the TV producer said the Bridget and Eamon star invited her onto to her 2fm radio show to set the record straight after media coverage went wild over the news and now Storm has insisted the two are all good.

“I think these things can get blown out of proportion,” she said.

“I know Jen didn’t mean any malice, that’s just what they [2fm’s Breakfast Republic] do, they take the p*ss out of everybody and they’re so good at it, they’re so funny.

“I think Jen’s adorable and we’ve been texting back and forth after it all happened – she was like ‘You should come into the station, it would be great to get you in and just have a good laugh about this and set the record straight for everybody back home’,” she revealed.

The 34-year-old, who launched Skechers Go Walk 3 runners in aid of the Marie Keating Foundation’s breast cancer awareness campaign, explained she was happy to clear up the confusion for people who thought she had made up her name.

“I didn’t want people thinking I made my name up. It was one of those slightly personal situations,” she smiled.

“You can have a laugh at the same time but you don’t want everyone thinking that you’re name’s not your name.”

Although her first name has never been a secret to those back at home in Australia, the shoe designer admitted it must of come as a surprise to people in Ireland.

“For me I never considered that people didn’t know because everyone who knows me knows,” she told Goss.ie.

“It’s never been a secret or something that was hidden, it was always the same story it was my middle name and I’ve just always been called it.

“Because it was a bit of a surprise to people here, it came up as one thing when it wasn’t.”
