EXCLUSIVE! Nicky Byrne gushes about supportive wife Georgina Byrne

The singer remembers his wife's support when he danced closely with someone else on Strictly Come Dancing

Nicky Byrne has gushed about his supportive wife Georgina Byrne, who he says has pushed him to fulfil his dreams.

The couple, who were childhood sweethearts, married in 2003 and have three children together – twins Rocco and Jay, 9, and daughter Gia, 3.

Speaking to Goss.ie, he admitted that “She always pushed me to go and fulfil my dreams, and I think that’s what any partner does to any partner.”

Nicky is one of the new hosts of RTE’s Dancing With The Stars alongside Amanda Byram – but it won’t be his first rodeo on a dancing competition having starred on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing in 2012.

“You want to see your partner successful and happy and that kind of stuff,” he told Goss.ie.

“She didn’t kick me out the door saying you have to do this show [Strictly], and I think any partner will find it’s not an easy show to watch your partner doing – there’s no doubt about that.

“Effectively you’re dancing with another girl on national television but you’re dancing with a girl five days a week.”

Close: The singer recalls his time on Strictly Come Dancing and how “brilliant” Georgina was while he competed | BBC

The 2FM DJ revealed that even though he was dancing closely with another woman, Georgina was brilliant in supporting him compete.

“Georgina was brilliant, literally the best wife in the world to allow their husband to do that because it can’t be easy, I know it’s not easy, I’ve seen other partners freak out.

“At the end of the day, that type of stuff can go on anywhere, in offices, in nightclubs, so the curse of Strictly is only because it’s a TV show.

“If someone goes down that road, they go down that road that’s none of our business. But it’s not what the show is about.

“You are dancing with somebody quite closely sometimes nose to nose and you want to deliver the performance a bit like acting. You have to make it believable when really it’s not real,” he added.

Dancing With The Stars hits RTE 1 on January 8th at 6.30pm.
