EXCLUSIVE: Laura Whitmore has lost out on Xtra Factor job

TV host Laura Whitmore has lost out on her big chance to present the X Factor’s spin-off  show.

ITV insiders have told Goss.ie that Laura was in the running to replace Caroline Flack on the Xtra Factor – but didn’t get the job.

An X Factor source said: “Laura happily came in and did a screen test for the role, after producers were impressed with her on I’m A Celebrity’s spin-off.

“But after thinking about it, they didn’t feel she fit the role perfectly and moved on with their search – which is sure to have been a blow for her… They want entirely fresh faces on the Xtra Factor this year.”

Despite not landing the coveted role, sources told Goss.ie that Simon Cowell is a fan of the presenters work.

“Simon really likes Laura, he loves her presenting style and they are still in talks to do something else.

“He had her own Britain’s Got Talent last week and she’ll be on other shows too,” the insider explained.

If Laura had got the job it would have made her the second Irish person working on the X Factor alongside Louis Walsh – after he signed his contract last week.

He will be joined by Simon Cowell, Cheryl Cole and apparently Spice Girl Mel B.

Laura previously joked that she wouldn’t be able to join the Xtra Factor because of her inability to flirt with Simon Cowell.

She said: “I’ve never met him but I don’t think I’m his type. I’m a terrible flirt anyway. I don’t know how to do it!”

Laura’s spokesman failed to return a request for comment.
