EXCLUSIVE! Irish gals bossing it abroad share what St. Patrick’s Day means to them

Emigration is so innately intertwined with Irishness that it would be rude not to look abroad and ask what our sisters who’ve left these shores what they think of St Patrick’s Day.

For centuries we’ve ventured far from our fair isle in search of opportunity and adventure, and in the process we have made ourselves arguably the world’s most loved nation.

We spoke to some of the women who have seen huge success carving out new lives for themselves far from home.

Laura Whitmore, Maeve Madden, Lainey Griffin and Eimear Varian-Barry all took some time out of their St Patrick’s Day celebrations to tell us why today is so important to them.

Our golden girl in London, Laura managed to crack the U.K. kicking off her TV career in MTV. Now one of the most famous TV presenters in the world, she shared her grá for St Patrick’s Day.

“It gives me a strong sense of National Pride and no matter what country I’m celebrating it in it’s obvious that our tiny country has a massive impact globally!”

Another Irish lass in London, Maeve has won over the wildly competitive world of modelling and made her mark in the UK! This Newry native loves celebrating our national holiday.

“I love St Patrick’s day, it’s a day no matter where you are in the world, you realise what an amazing sense of pride we have as a country. We go everywhere together. We are a united nation. We are Irish not because we were born In Ireland but because Ireland was born in us.????”

“Yet no matter where I am in the world, there is no place like home… I feel lucky to be Irish, Ireland will forever be my home.”

Lainey Griffin

Lainey left Ireland to be with her bae and find her place in the international #FitFam community. The extremely successful YouTuber and sponsored athlete loves Lá Fhéile Pádraig.

“Being a way from home on at Patrick’s day definitely makes me miss the buzz that the day brings to Ireland. I remember it being one of the highlights of my childhood to celebrate the day with all my family.”

“I think it’s amazing that no matter where you are in the world the Irish always seem to gravitate together… It’s like we have a naughty little secret that we aren’t letting the rest of the world in on!”

Eimear Varian-Barry

I worked from a cafe for most of the day today and met an elderly Irish couple who were over for the weekend, taking care of their beautiful grandson. The 3 year old was mad (in a good way ????) He wacked his Grandad across the head with a seat cushion so hard that his hearing aid fell out! ???? Oh how we laughed!! Anyway… their accents and their humour made me so homesick ???? This was last Summer at one of my favourite places in the world, The Blasket Islands. My Dad is from this area and I have so much of it still to discover. My sister @niamhvbmusic , brother in law @superceili and I left the babas with the grandparents and got the boat over on a beautiful day. We felt so free and happy. We stripped off and ran into the sea ???????? I can’t wait to get back here soon ☘

Eimear is a Cork cailín who has gone to Britain and bossed the blogoshpere.

“I have lived away from Ireland for 10 years and feel even more proud to be Irish living in a different country. It’s so special on on Patrick’s Day because there is no other day like it by any other nation in the world!”

“Everybody loves the Irish and it’s what comes with the day that makes it so fun! You can’t beat the music and the craic that comes with it!”

Happy St Patrick’s Day from Goss.ie wherever you are in the world!
