EXCLUSIVE! Irish comedian Julie Jay reveals plans to marry Fred Cooke this year

Julie Jay has revealed her plans to marry Fred Cooke this year.

The Irish comedians got engaged during the lockdown last year, and welcomed their first child in September – a baby boy named Ted.

Goss.ie spoke exclusively to Julie for this week’s Spotlight On feature, which will go live on our site this Sunday.

During our chat, the new mum revealed she and Fred had booked their wedding venue in Co. Kerry, where they will celebrate their special day with just family.

Julie said: “We have the 11th of December booked so we’re going to get married in Dingle, but we’ve decided we’re just going to have family.”

“We would love to have the big hooley and all of our friends. but I think we’re just going to hold off. We’re just going to have a family thing in Dingle at Christmas.”

“We can’t wait. It really is just for us at this stage. I know Fred would like the whole shebang but we’re hoping down the line we might be able to have something for friends.”

“It’s going to be a bit of a family reunion. We’re hoping at that stage most of us will be vaccinated. I think once the more vulnerable members of the family have been vaccinated, we can enjoy ourselves.”

“My cousin has been over in Sheffield and we haven’t seen her for 18 months. It’s so funny because even as I was telling you we’ve booked the 11th of December, she’s been on the phone booking the flights and she’s so excited.”

“We were saying maybe September but for us, we would prefer to hold off until it’s safe for everyone,” Julie explained.

“It’ll be lovely. I mean it might be a bit emotional as well because we haven’t seen people in so long, but I think it’ll be really nice for our families.”

Our full exclusive interview with Julie goes live on Sunday, May 16.

During our chat, the former teacher opened up about how she first got into comedy, her popular true-crime podcast Crimeland, life as a new mum and how she deals with online criticism.
