The RTÉ soap star is busy playing Damien on the long running soap drama and feels the TV3 soap is making him work harder.

“You know with competition you have to raise your game and I think Red Rock, it’s a great show, I think it’s actually being groomed for outside of Ireland,” he said.

“I’m glad they are around and they can knock on our back door for as long as they want.”

Maclean was at the launch of Fiona Looney’s show which takes a look back at the Garth Brooks fiasco which took place last year and he is looking forward to stepping onto the stage.

“It’s a lot of fun, it’s a riot of a show and it’s really topical, everybody is talking about it. There’s huge interest in it and it’s exciting to be part of it,” he told Goss.ie.

He stars alongside IFTA winning actress Deirdre O’Kane who plays Margaret a lonely house wife who is a massive fan of the American country singer.

“There’s only four actors in it as well, we’re playing multiple roles and I like the fun that’s in that, your running in and your playing twenty different characters in one night,

“And obviously it’s so topical, you get to play Garth Brookes and it’s a bit of fun and here we are sitting on a horse outside the Gaiety,” he revealed.

Are You There Garth, It’s Me Magaret runs from October 13th to 25th and tickets are available from www.gaietytheatre.ie and www.ticketmaster.ie.
