EXCLUSIVE! DWTS Judges on why the show is on par with Strictly Come Dancing

Dancing with the Stars judges Loraine Barry and Darren Bennett are full of praise for the celebrity dance show.

Loraine and Darren spoke to Goss.ie about the very high standard of the show, and revealed why DWTS is on par with BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing.

Ballroom dancer and judge, Loraine said, “I think that Ireland is right up there beside London because we’ve got a fantastic setting, if you look at the judges here, I am so qualified for this job, I’ve won over 50 titles, I traveled the world and have seen all types of different dancing – and Brian is an All-Ireland Champion and Darren of course has been doing the show himself.

“The whole package that we have is fantastic and also we’ve got some amazing professional dancers who are bringing a lot of these celebrities really up to a very nice high level of dancing,” she added.

Darren, who is also the creative director for the very first DWTS Ireland show, explained that “each team do their job so well, whether it’s the hair and make-up team, the graphics team, whether it’s the costume team, whether it’s the choreographers and dancers. It’s great to produce this.”

“I pass out all the mood boards which I deliver out to the teams and then they just run with it. They’ve surpassed even my ideas. So from that perspective it’s been an amazing show. It’s really well organised, everyone’s having a great time. It’s a hard show, it is the hardest show to make on TV.”

The Latin dancer who has worked on the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing show thinks DWTS is on par with Strictly, “I think visually they stand together. I mean we have amazing graphics, we’ve got great dancers, the celebrities have been fantastic to work with. We’re working on a much tighter budget but at the end of the day my job as creative producer is to make sure we get as much as we can on screen.

The Strictly winner thinks that the show has surpassed the public’s expectations of what the RTÉ show could actually produce on a smaller budget.

“I think in terms of the Irish audience and the Irish public and also even media wise with newspapers and social media, we’ve out performed people’s expectations of the show,” he added.
