Catherine Walker chatted to Goss.ie at the world premiere of her new movie The Delinquent Season in which she plays a wife trapped in an emotionally abusive relationship in Dublin.
The accomplished theatre actress stars alongside Cillian Murphy, Eva Birthistle and Andrew Scott in the movie which was directed by Mark O’Rowe.
The stellar Irish cast find themselves intertwined when infidelity and emotional abuse invade their middle-class marriages and this leads Catherine’s character to begin an extramarital affair with Cillian Murphy.
The actress remarked on how Mark O’Rowe’s direction made the role all about the script and how that made “an intense time” (their 15-day shooting schedule) easier for the actors.
“When you’re working on Mark’s script it’s all about the language in the script so actually it’s less about what you bring in and what you’re carrying and more about working with your fellow player, working through the language and then letting the mystery come up and not making too many decision. Mark is great on that ”
“I suppose was intense in that, when you’re in the middle of those scenes they’re incredibly intense.”
“It was an extraordinary privilege for me, working with actors of this calibre,” Catherine says of her fellow castmates.
She went on to remark that working with them was “a great honour” and that she “learned so much”.
The Delinquent Season closed the Audi Dublin International Film Festival and is in cinemas nationwide from today.
