A spokesman for Aer Lingus described the incident as a “security matter”.

He said: “An incident took place on board flight EI110 en route from New York to Shannon today.

“The matter is being investigated by An Garda Síochána. As this is a security matter we will not comment any further.”

Earlier Dolores was taken to University Limerick Hospital to be “assessed” by doctors.

But it is now being reported that the singer was released from the hospital.

Previously Dolores was a coach on the Voice of Ireland before quitting this year because of issues with the long commute.

She has been replaced by Una Foden and Rachel Stevens, after Jamelia also left the show.
