Bono's daughter changed name to Eve from Memphis – after U2 star realised she'd be bullied

Bono’s daughter Eve Hewson has revealed he was happy to change her name as a kid – as he didn’t want her to be bullied at school.

The U2 star had named her Memphis Eve Sunny Day Hewson but was happy to drop the first name.

“My parents knew I’d get bullied, so I just went with Eve,” she said. “I know Memphis is in there somewhere but on my passport I’m Eve Sunny Day Hewson.”

The 23-year-old is currently building up a career for herself in America as an actress.

She recently starred in director Steven Soderbergh’s new TV drama The Knick, set in a 1900 New York hospital.

And Eve admits that Bono has tried to give her advice on her performances – but none of it helped.

“He tried to teach me all about the musicality of a line, but that’s not a good way to go about your acting,” she said.

“He has helped me in other ways but not really as an acting coach. I call him and ask him about scripts and directors.”

Earlier this week, Goss.ie told how Eve was forced to deal with her phobia of blood to star in The Knick.
