Eoghan McDermott gets replaced by another Irish star on Love Island Australia

Eoghan McDermott has been replaced by another Irish star on Love Island Australia.

The former RTÉ 2FM presenter narrated the first two seasons of the dating show, but was noticeably missing from the teaser trailer of season three.

It has since been confirmed that Irish actor and comedian Stephen Mullan – who starred in the 2014 film Love, Rosie – will take over from Eoghan for the upcoming series.

Speaking to The Sydney Herald about his new gig, Stephen said: “My agent sent me a message over the summer, asking was I interested in doing it, and honestly the first round of it I was like, yeah sure, it’ll be a bit of a laugh.”

“It was kind of like another voiceover job, and we just kept going through the rounds, there were a few different rounds of auditions and in the last one I had to write some jokes and had some fun doing it.”

“It just happened like that – I can’t say I knew much about the show, to be honest with you.”

It comes after RTÉ confirmed Eoghan’s departure from 2fm on March 8, two weeks after he suddenly disappeared from the Breakfast show.

In a statement, the broadcaster said: “RTÉ confirms that Eoghan McDermott will not be returning to RTÉ 2FM. His contract is due to expire shortly.”

His former co-host Doireann now hosts a brand new breakfast show on the station with Carl Mullan and Donncha O’Callaghan.

Season three of Love Island Australia premieres on Nine on Monday, October 11.
