Eight-year-old boy sends heartwarming letter to Michael D. Higgins over the death of his beloved dog

The President confirmed the death of his dog Síoda last week

An eight-year-old boy has sent a heartwarming letter to Michael D. Higgins over the death of his beloved dog, Síoda.

Last week, the people of Ireland shared their heartbreak after President Higgins confirmed Síoda’s death in a newsletter.

Over the past few years, the President’s Bernese mountain dogs Síoda and Bród have gained celebrity status in Ireland – as they were regularly seen prancing around Áras an Uachtaráin.

The duo often attended engagements with President Higgins, and they famously greeted Prince Harry and Meghan Markle during their first official visit to Ireland back in 2018.

After the news started circulating on social media, many took to Twitter to express their sadness over Síoda’s death.

Irish father Glen Guilfoyle has since revealed his son wrote a touching letter to Michael D. Higgins, and it tugged on a lot of people’s heart strings.

Taking to Twitter, Glen shared photos of the letter, and wrote: “How class is it to live in a country where the @PresidentIRL is so feckin sound that our children worry about him when his dog passes away.”

“Is there a kid in Ireland who doesn’t adore him? My 8 year old just handed this to post. #RIPSioda #MichaelDisALedge.”

In another tweet, he wrote: “Jaysus lads….I hate to do this to ye…it’s very early for raw emotion….but s*** just got real. He wrote a cover letter in bed last night. I’m not able!!!!! He’s posting it on the way home from school. #HugsForMiggledy #RIPSioda.”

The sweet letter reads: “To President Michael D. Higgins, I am sorry to hear about Síoda. She was a good girl. I hope you and Bród are okay.”

“I was sad when my cat died so I know that you are too. Thanks for being a great president.”
