Donald Trump officially spoke to our new Taoiseach Leo Varadkar yesterday, to congratulate him on his “great victory”.
According to reporters in the Oval Office, Leo kept the US President waiting for 90 seconds before picking up the phone – but that wasn’t what set tongues wagging at the White House.
Whilst on the phone to Leo, Trump called over RTÉ’s Washington Correspondent Caitriona Perry, and said, “Where are you from? Come here, come here.”
“We have all of these beautiful Irish press,” Donald said to Leo, before adding, “She has a nice smile on her face, so I bet she treats you well.”

RTÉ reporter Caitriona quickly took to Twitter to share the footage, and branded her encounter with President Trump as “bizarre”.
The video has since been retweeted over 8,000 times – and Americans have even taken the time to apologise to Caitriona for Donald’s actions.

We apologize that our president is a weird, inappropriate creep.

I just vomited all over my framed copy of his TIME cover.
… But I had already peed on it, so no big deal.

We apologize for this demented buffoon caveman, the admitted sexual predator, and are working on the problem. Please forgive us.

Yes. I’d like a huge sign that says “Pardon our mess, we are working on making America kind again.”
