Domhnall Gleeson reveals he keeps being compared to Cate Blanchett and Tilda Swinton

The Irish actor has poked fun at the resemblance

Domhnall Gleeson has admitted that he’s regularly compared to Oscar-winning actresses Cate Blanchett and Tilda Swinton.

The 34-year-old poked fun at himself by pointing out how different he looks in photos, in comparison to real life.

“I went through a phase of looking like Tilda Swinton in photographs,” Domhnall told the Irish Sun. “Actually, it was Cate Blanchett first. That was pretty full-on for a while.”

“People would come up to me in the street, saying, ‘Can I just tell you: you look so much like Cate Blanchett.’”

Domhnall, who is the son of famed Irish actor Brendan Gleeson, has made a name for himself over the years – starring in huge blockbuster hits like Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

However, the Dubliner is happy to stay out of the limelight, and has admitted that he would hate to be as famous as the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Cruise.

“My dad doesn’t occupy that level of superstardom, so maybe you can only imagine what’s gone before you. Or maybe I’m just a pessimist. I naturally skew towards the melancholy. But I’m trying hard to be more hopeful.”

Domhnall’s most recent project is the brand new film adaptation of Beatrix Potter’s classic tale Peter Rabbit, in which he plays cranky Mr McGregor.

The actor stars alongside James Corden and Margot Robbie, who feature as CGI animals in the film.

Speaking about working with his co-stars, Domhnall joked that he was the only one who actually turned up for filming, as the rest just required voice over work.

“[James Corden] never showed up, though, the f***er. Neither did Margot Robbie or Daisy Ridley or any of these other brilliant actors. But I got a lot of time with Rose Byrne, which was fantastic. I’d really wanted to work with her,” he added.
