Doireann Garrihy says she’s avoiding comments about her new relationship online

Doireann Garrihy has stated that she is avoiding comments about her new relationship online.

The 26-year-old debuted her boyfriend, Joe Melody, at Electric Picnic last weekend.

The radio presenter stated that she has avoided comments about her relationship on social media: “I didn’t look. I just don’t really care. I’m just doing my own thing.”

Doireann also said that Joe gets on well with the other men in her family and said that “he’s very handsome.”

The presenter also opened up about her new role on Podge and Rodge as she assured fans that there won’t be any huge changes to the show.

“The format is pretty much going to be the same, but obviously there’s going to be a few new things to come to kind of freshen it up and make it feel relevant to today’s audience,” the presenter explained.

“It’s been eight years since it was on TV so there’s obviously going to be diehards who loved the show, but then we obviously want a new audience as well and for there to be something for everyone.”

Doireann also stated that the show is going to be a bit offensive and said that it’s “definitely not PC. If you’re expecting PC, switch off. Obviously a lot has changed in eight years and there’s a lot of stuff that might have been acceptable back then but definitely isn’t now.”

“That’s what I’m there for as well, to kind of reign them in I suppose. They’ve a lot to teach me, but I’ve a lot to teach them. The craic has just been great so far,” she said.

The Spin 103.8 host isn’t planning on moving on from radio any time soon though, as she told us: “That’s my main love and it’s been such a brilliant training ground for TV. With radio I think it’s a little bit tougher, because obviously with TV you have the visual stuff.”

“If something goes wrong you can see it go wrong on. On radio you just have to keep it going, there’s no visual to support you so it’s been just the best craic and I’ve great craic with Martin,” she finished.

Doireann also revealed that she will be impersonating Amy Huberman, as well as more male characters, in the new season of The Doireann Project.

The programme is set to be released on RTÉ Player as well as two episodes shown on RTÉ 2.

Doireann has been announced as the newest judge added to the panel for Bank of Ireland’s Junk Kouture competition, where she will appear alongside Louis Walsh, Tracey Fahey, Jane Leavey and Stephen McLaughlin.

The competition is set to kick off in March and the opening date for design applications is 7th January.
