Doireann Garrihy has revealed she has split from boyfriend Joe Melody.
The romance was her first in the public eye, with the pair revealing their relationship at Electric Picnic last summer when they posed for a photo together.
In an interview with this weekend’s Irish Mail on Sunday, Doireann said “nothing massively went wrong” but the pair just decided to go their separate ways.
“Nothing went massively wrong. It was just a bad time. It isn’t easy to have a long-distance relationship when you are in the public eye.
“It was tough there for a while. I am all good now,” Doireann said of the break up.
The social media star turned presenter also opened up about the realities of her life, saying she was under so much stress this past year that one day she “burst out crying”.
“Things are quiet for me at the moment, compared to what they were,” she told the publication.
“Last year I had the Doireann Project, Podge and Rodge and the Zoo Crew was full-time. I burned out a bit by the end of the year.
“I thought being busy was this badge of honour. Then, last November, I was in work one day and I just burst out crying. I just hit a wall. For a few weeks I was just a shell of myself.
“Whether it was filming or radio or the constant of having to be on my phone all the time, it was too much. I realised I needed to slow down a bit and that is why I am not as busy,” she explained.
While another season of The Doireann Project is expected, Podge and Rodge confirmed the show has been axed after one series.
Doireann continues to be highly sought after in the world of radio too, now often on air for Today FM and we exclusively revealed this month that RTE 2FM are “lining her up” for a new show.
