However, it was Des’ married friends with children who told him just how fortunate he was to still have his freedom.

“That was my fault I f***ed up. I said it to my married friends with kids, I said ‘Yo guys, I think I f***ed up,'” he told Ryan Tubridy on RTE’s The Late Late Show.

“They told me, ‘No, no, we f***ed up.’ They look at the freedom [I have] and they think ‘I want this guy’s life.’

“I can appreciate it because my brother has kids now and being a modern parent is tough. You have to deal with your kids all the time.”

Uncle Des: The comedian revealed he likes hanging out with his nieces and nephews | VIPIRELAND.COM

Des explained that when he was a child, he and his siblings would be told to leave the house by his mother and they wouldn’t come back for hours.

“My mother, in the 70s and 80s, would say ‘Get out of my house’ – and we would just disappear for hours.

“The only thing that would bring us home was hunger and the moon. We had this incredible freedom.

“I think maybe I did make the right move. Being an uncle is like being Donald Trump, you just wind them up and then f*** off – just leave the mess,” he added.

On the show, Des was announced as first contestant to be taking part in RTE’s hottest show of 2017 already, Dancing With The Stars.
