Dermot Bannon opens up about struggle with stress and sleepless nights

Nation’s sweetheart Dermot Bannon opened up about life’s stressors in an article with the RTÉ Guide.

The architect and host of Room To Improve discussed his own stressful home makeover with the magazine ahead of the new season launching this weekend.

“We should have been finished by now. I messed up everything. I’ve changed the specifications which has added a huge amount of time. Everyone is going bananas.” he told the magazine.

Dermot is currently living in a rented property with his family while his own home is being renovated.

The refurbishment is being filmed for an RTÉ special which will air in January.

Originally, he said he wasn’t sure if he wanted his own home to be filmed for TV, but decided he was OK with it if his wife and children weren’t being filmed.

“It’s just me and the design with my team. It’s about my own struggles and not whether I fought with my wife.”

Speaking on how balancing work and his own renovation is impacting him, he said he is stressed out, and having sleepless nights.

“Nobody can help you with stress, I’ve found you have to deal with it yourself. And my mum’s favourite saying is ‘This too will pass’ and I believe in that.”

“I have sleepless nights, but I believe you don’t get anything worthwhile out of life unless you put in the work so the struggle is important. Whether that is TV show you are making or the home you are building or even family life and marriage. Life has its ups and downs but you learn to cope.”

Room To Improve returns to RTÉ this Sunday.
