Delighted Morah Ryan is 'beyond proud' at son Rex's new stage career

Gerry Ryan’s family have told of their delight to see his son triumphing as an actor.

Talented Rex Ryan wrote and starred in comedy play the Boyz of Harcourt Street, as Goss.ie previously revealed.

The 24-year-old is seen binge drinking, having sex in a bathroom cubical and pretending to take drugs.

But Rex’s mum Morah couldn’t be more proud of him finding his footsteps on the stage.

She told the Irish Sun: “We’re beyond proud — Rex is absolutely wonderful!”

Previously Morah added that she didn’t want him to keep the 70s-style moustache he grew for the show at the Smock Alley Theatre

She added: “I hate it! Don’t tell him to keep it, he looks like Ron Burgundy.”

The Dublin up-and-coming star previously graduated from the Gaiety School of Acting and is taking part in the Dublin Fringe Festival this September.

Previously Rex told how he wants to be taken seriously on his own merit – and doesn’t feel his family name will be a hindrance or help to his career.

“I’m not worried that people will know me for the Ryan name and my dad,” he said.

“I think my experiences so far of the work that I’ve done, it hasn’t affected me whatsoever – for my advantage or for my disadvantage.

“So it’s really nice for me. You have to really be your own self and that’s key I suppose in life.”
