Daithi O'Se: 'Fatherhood will stop me splitting from Rita'

Daithi O’Se has admitted having a baby will ensure he and Rita Talty never split – but he won’t be putting the kid first.

The RTE star is set to become a parent for the first time when his Rose of Tralee beauty wife gives birth in four weeks time.

And the 37-year-old said that while they became closer after their wedding their child will “bond us together forever”.

He said: “It’s made us a lot stronger. You get engaged and married and there’s a sense of closeness after the engagement.

“And you get closer with the marriage and then there’s a baby coming and that’ll just bond us together forever.”

But the Today show host vowed that they won’t give up on their quality time together after they become parents – as Rita, 30, is more important to him than his soon to be born child.

He said: “Even if you have children I think the most important relationship in that family is mum and dad because if they’re not happy that will filter down to the kids.

“I know people say you have to put the kids first but I don’t necessarily believe that. If mum and dad’s relationship is good, the rest will fall into place.”

Ladies man: Daithi can’t get away from the Roses if he tries

And Daithi admitted he’s now planning an extremely quiet Valentine’s Day on Friday – as he’s afraid the baby could arrive early.

He told Woman’s Way: “It will involve taking it easy. The baby will be arriving three or four weeks after, as long as we don’t have any big surprise on Valentine’s we’ll be fine!

“People call it the Hallmark holiday but it’s something nice, something positive and an opportunity to do a nice thing for your partner.

“I’d have more time for doing nice stuff than spending a pile of money, you don’t need to spend a pile of money.

“We’re staying in, in front of the fire and watching TV. I just don’t want to be going anywhere at the weekend, we just want to hang out.”

And Daithi insisted that even if he didn’t meet the American at the Rose of Tralee in 2008, he knows they would have met.

He added: “It was definitely love at first sight when I saw Rita. You have to believe in [her being the one]. Some people never find the one and if I’d never found the one I’d be really sad.

“If Rita hadn’t entered The Rose of Tralee and I hadn’t been a judge, would we have crossed paths? I believe we would have, in some strange way.”
