Dáithí Ó Sé has admitted he’s “nervous” over the future of his job with RTÉ.

The 44-year-old is currently on a break from hosting The Today Show with Maura Derrane, which will be back on screens in September.

Although the afternoon show is a hit with Irish audiences, Dáithí has admitted there’s always a worry your show might be axed.

He told the Irish Mirror: “Everyone is nervous. But when you work on an afternoon show, you are nervous every year.”

“It doesn’t have to take a pandemic to make you nervous that the show might not come back.”

“Look, I haven’t seen my contract or anything yet, but I’m told we are back on the third Monday in September with the Today Show,” he said.

“But one thing is we were working on the whole social distancing thing in the last month, so there is a precedent there and we don’t have an audience, we record things so there aren’t lots of people in the studio at the same time.”

“And we do two and a quarter hours everyday and it is repeated again in the morning and that is a big huge monster.”

“And last season we did 173 of them, and we have been there for a long long time. And we bring that bit of normality.

“Give me another couple of weeks off and I’ll be looking forward to going back,” he added.

On this week’s episode of the Gosscast, Goss.ie CEO Ali Ryan and Goss.ie Editor Kendra Becker chat through the biggest stories of the week.

After Kanye West’s shocking Twitter rant, the girls talk through what’s going on with his marriage to Kim Kardashian.

Plus as the #FreeBritney movement ramps up again, the girls talk about her controversial conservatorship.
