Colm Hayes thinks Al Porter ‘will grow as big as Graham Norton’

Colm Hayes has admitted that he thinks Al Porter can make as big a name for himself over in the UK as fellow Irish man Graham Norton has.

The presenter left his weekend breakfast show on RTE’s 2FM and is set to be replaced by the Dublin funny man.

“I have no doubt that what we’re seeing here now is somebody who will grow as big as Graham Norton on TV,” Colm said.

The radio veteran revealed that huge broadcasting stations have their eyes on the comedian and it’s only a matter of time before he becomes a huge name.

“The next step he makes is very important because England and the BBC and Channel 4 are looking at Al at the moment,” he told the Irish Mirror.

“Let’s just say he’s on the first rung of that amazing climb that exists in England.

“They’re very much aware of him.”

Colm praised Al for all the work he does but further admitted that he doesn’t think the 23-year-old will be taking over his show because of his weekend demands.

“Al is in Edinburgh now for the next month. Then when he comes back he starts on his tour which goes around Oz for a number of months,” he added.

“Then he’s in panto and that takes over his life for two months as well.

“And most weekends he’s gigging in England at the moment, so no, I don’t think he’ll be taking over the weekend breakfast.”

Al has previously talked about his relationship with Colm and called him a “father figure” after it was confirmed he would be joining the 2FM team.
