Colin Farrell has been nominated for a Best Actor award at this year’s European Film Awards.

The Irish actor has received the nod for his performance in The Killing of a Sacred Deer, which he starred in alongside Nicole Kidman and Barry Keoghan.

The Killing of a Sacred Deer also received two other nominations – director Yorgos Lanthimos has been nominated in the best director category and the best screenwriter category, alongside Efthimis Filippou.

Colin plays cardiac surgeon Steven in the thriller, who is forced to make an unthinkable sacrifice after his life starts to fall apart when the behaviour of a teenage boy (Barry Keoghan) he has taken under his wing turns sinister.

Nicole Kidman plays Colin’s wife Anna, and Alicia Silverstone plays the mother of Barry Keoghan’s character, Martin.

The Killing of a Sacred Deer is in cinemas now.
