Claudine Keane insists son Robert Jnr is still 100% Irish as he grows up in America

Claudine Keane has insisted son Robert Jnr is 100% Irish – even as he grows up in America.

The former model has been married to Irish soccer legend since 2008, giving birth to their son a year later.

And Claudine, 31, said that despite being based in Los Angeles for Robbie’s soccer career with LA Galaxy, their son has still kept his Irish accent despite a few changes in his vocabulary.

She said: “He has got an Irish accent, but there are American words he’ll say like candy or trash can.

“When he’d say trash can, I’d go ‘Oh, the bin’. But I also know that to be in school and to be around his friends, they won’t understand him, they don’t know what that is.”

And Claudine, who is loving the heat of California, told the Herald she and Robbie would always see Ireland as being home.

She said: “I still think he thinks that Ireland is home, because he is very close to both our families, both of our parents, my brother and everything.

“So he loves getting back to see them… We bought a house last year in Ireland, and it will always be a base. We will always come back home and be with family and friends.”

It came as Claudine and Robbie were named as ambassadors for Special Olympics Ireland.
