Cillian Murphy defends the casting of Harry Styles in Dunkirk

Cillian Murphy has defended the casting of Harry Styles in upcoming action-thriller Dunkirk.

The film, written and directed by famed film-maker Christopher Nolan, will star Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Mark Rylance and One Direction’s Harry Styles.

Controversy has surrounded the film ever since the 1D star’s casting was announced – but now, his cast mate Cillian has defended Christopher Nolan’s decision.

When asked about working with Harry, Cillian said, “You know, Chris Nolan’s not going to cast an actor unless he’s a talented person so I’m sure he’ll be amazing,” he said in a video posted by USA Today.

The Irish actor also praised Harry’s character, and described him as a “really, really lovely kid”.

“He’s a great kid, I’ve really enjoyed working with him. I’ve not actually done any acting scenes with him, but I think there’s a definite cross over between music and film.

“I actually come from that world myself, and he’s a really, really lovely kid and very charismatic and we’ve had great fun,” he added.

The news comes after Christopher Nolan just released the first teaser trailer for Dunkirk, which unfortunately doesn’t feature Cillian or Harry.
