Ciara Doherty bids emotional farewell to Ireland AM as she prepares for new role

Ciara Doherty has bid an emotional farewell to Ireland AM as she made her final broadcast on the show.

The presenter will take on a new role on Virgin Media’s The Tonight Show, assuming her new position on September 1st.

Speaking on this morning’s show, Ciara said: “I think the thing about being on Ireland AM, which took me by surprise, and I think Mark Cagney said it to me when I was joining, he said: ‘Wait until you see how the viewers will come around with you, Ireland AM viewers are so incredibly loyal.'”

Alan Hughes and Karen Coster joined the host towards the end of the show, where they revealed that the crew had a special cocktail made in her honour.

Alan said that the cocktail was like Ciara: “Deliciously sweet, with an unexpected sharp edge and a delightful smooth finish, leaving you wanting more.”

Ciara was moved to tears as she watched a compilation of her best bits on the show: “I swore I wasn’t going to cry again today, but thank you, thank you so much, for that lovely, love tribute. I really do appreciate it.”

“I have thoroughly enjoyed every single minute spent on this couch. I have made friends in presenters, researchers, producers, past and present and I know I will carry those with me.

“I want to thank every single on of the guests that has sat on this sofa and shared their stories so bravely and so honestly and have moved me to tears and made me think differently on so many occasions.

“I want to thank all of the Ireland AM viewers who truly are loyal, gracious, fun, welcoming and who have also become a real support and real friends to me.

“I was an Ireland AM fan and an Ireland AM viewer long before I ever joined the team and I will continue and I will promise to be that. So thank you all so very, very much.”
