Christy Dignam says reports of cancer return are an ‘exaggeration’

Christy Dignam has responded to reports that his cancer has returned, and described the story as an “exaggeration”.

Over the weekend, the Irish Sun on Sunday reported that Christy’s cancer had returned – and the Aslan frontman subsequently received an outpour of support and well wishes.

“I got a terrible shock. I got the result from my monthly blood test that I’m most afraid of.

“It was the worst news I could get, that this negative protein is growing inside my body,” he told the newspaper.

However, when the 57-year-old was speaking to Ian Dempsey on Today FM this morning, he said that the reports were an “exaggeration”.

“The thing is my bloods fluctuate every so often. They go up and they go down so they went up last week but they could go down again this week. You wouldn’t know,” he told Ian. “There’s no emergency happening because I’m dancin’.”

Christy, who celebrated his 57th birthday just last month, was diagnosed with rare blood cancer Amyloidosis back in 2013 and underwent chemotherapy at the time.

Despite Christy’s ongoing battle, he’s continued to tour with Aslan, and is set to play the Iveagh Gardens on July 7.
