Cecelia Ahern reveals panto queen Twink inspired her work ethic

Cecelia Ahern has thanked panto queen Twink for inspiring her incredible work ethic.

Before the 35-year-old started putting pen to paper, she starred in one of Twink’s Olympia pantos, which was called Rockin’ Hood: Prince of Thieves back in 1998.

Speaking about her panto days, the bestselling author admitted that she learned a lot from the panto diva.

“I learned a lot from Twink about work ethic, she’s an incredible force, super talented. I really only have good things to say about her,” she told the Herald.

Cecelia later went on to form four-piece pop band Shimma in 2000, who even went on to audition for the Eurovision with their single When You Are Near.

Although her pop career didn’t take off, Cecelia’s glad they didn’t go on “to be the next Abba” – as their rejection led to her incredibly successful career as a writer.

“For a long time I cringed, but now I show my kids and say ‘Look mummy’s in a belly top’. I wish I could wear that now.

“I wouldn’t be writing if we had gone on to be the next Abba. Rejection is good because it makes you realise what your path should be,” she added.
