Cassie Stokes receiving homophobic hate mail

Cassis Stokes has revealed that she received hate mail when she joined the Xpose team.

The TV host opened up that she was sent a postcard with homophobic comments written on it.

“They didn’t sign their name. They definitely had strong feelings towards gay people,” she said.

“I have no idea who it was from, it was on a postcard.”

Hate: Cassie admitted she got hate mail when she joined Xpose | VIPIRELAND.COM

“There were a few things about, ‘you will have this label on your back forever’ and I was like, ‘really?'” she told the Herald.

“Because I feel like I am wearing that label very proudly on my front.”

Although not hurt by the comments, the TV star admitted she was more worried about the impact this person might have on someone they know who is gay.

“It didn’t hurt me as much as it would hurt your family or something like that,” she explained.

“This person is irrelevant to me, but they could be quite relevant to someone that is in their neighbourhood who is gay.”

Speaking more about the situation on The Nicky Byrne Show on 2FM, Cassie said she never wanted her sexuality to be a secret.

“When I started out Xpose I told everyone I was gay because I didn’t want it to be a thing, like I had been hiding it,” she said.

“I’m gay and a TV presenter but there’s also a lot more to me.

“The reason I’m being open about this is because the person is irrelevant to me but to someone who is younger and more vulnerable I think that person could be spreading hate towards them,” she added.

“It’s important to know that these things are still going on. In the future hopefully TV presenters don’t have to say they are gay.”
